Sad news – Eddie Bell

We are very sorry to advise members of the passing of Eddie Bell on Sunday 12th April. This followed a period of illness (cancer) which, sadly, he did not recover from. Eddie was a long term member of the Society and he will be greatly missed. He was extremely moved to have won the David Smith Memorial Trophy Macro competition on 6th February with his wonderful print of seedheads and this also scored very highly in Northallerton battle.
Due to the current restrictions we will be prevented from taking part in any funeral arrangements, but hopefully we will be able to pay our respects at some point in the future. I will try to contact his sons about this.

Allan Snape

and from John L Davies..

So sad to hear about Eddie. As a founder member yourself, like me you will have known him for over 20 years. He has always been a stalwart, supporting the club in external competitions and in many other areas such as helping at Stokesley show and organising sweatshirts and caps with the society logo. He was also a good friend and an all round “nice bloke” who had more than his share of adversities in his life and facing them all with a certain benign resignation that would have defied most people. I realised something must have been wrong when he failed to appear at the last few meetings before lockdown but as you say, it was great that he won the macro competition even if he didn’t manage to get his hands on the trophy. I will miss him.

Kind regards
